Invitation to the FIR Annual Conference – Repowering Europe /11.10.2022/

Faculty of International Relations, University of Economics Prague

invites you to the FIR Annual Conference 2022, this time entitled

Repowering Europe,

which will take place on Tuesday 11 October 2022.

The covid-19 pandemic has weakened the whole world, and not just economically. The world economy was expecting a recovery this year and a slow return to a “new normal”. The incomprehensible invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops has shaken the world economy and geopolitics, but it is also the biggest conflict we have seen in Europe probably since the Cold War. Europe is facing an inflow of refugees seeking shelter from attacks on their homes. The international community has responded by imposing sanctions, but Russia’s attacks continue. EU Member States are standing behind Ukraine, and the EU is helping financially, humanitarian aid, military equipment or by providing asylum for Ukrainian citizens. The current turbulent times are dominated by uncertainty in almost all sectors of the economy. Uncertain gas and oil supplies from Russia are pushing energy prices to astronomical heights. The EU is actively seeking ways to compensate for supply shortages in its neighbours. In addition, energy prices are translating into product prices, and Europe is experiencing inflation that it has not seen for a long time.

In addition, energy prices are translating into product prices, and Europe is experiencing inflation that it has not seen for a long time.

  • How will a weakened Europe cope with the challenges it faces in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine?
  • Can Europe (fully) replace the uncertain energy supplies from Russia?
  • How is the economy currently coping with the impact of the invasion?

The FIR annual conference thematically follows the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council.

The current programme and link to register for the conference can be found here. The event is open to professionals, academics, students and the general public. We look forward to seeing you!
